Ready to Start Again

I slowed down a bit during the last part of summer, but I'm ready to begin crocheting again! I started a new job, which will afford me the $ to purchase more yarn, since donations have been hard to come by these days. I'm looking forward to trying out some of the new colors and yarn types that are being introduced by the different companies right now. Stay tuned for pictures of what I'm working on, information about our giveaways and donations, and more!

Our Give-Aways, Donations, & Purchases To Date

I'm so happy to say that Project Comfort has donated, given away, or had purchased 8 shawls. There are two more in the works right now for donation, and of course, the plan is to next contact local area hospitals here in Upstate SC to see if PC can donate shawls to patients currently in the hospital or cancer center.

I'm new at this so I'm not sure exactly how to go about it or state my case, but I'm hoping that I can find the right words.

Remember, if you'd like to volunteer for Project Comfort and make a shawl or two, please contact me.

Thanks everyone!

Here are some of the shawls made for Project Comfort:

What is Project Comfort?

If you've never heard of a prayer shawl or a comfort shawl, this site called The Prayer Shawl Ministry can enlighten you on what they are and their uses. Basically, they are handmade shawls given to someone undergoing any type of change in their life, such as an illness or grieving, where a bit of comfort is needed. They can be knitted, crocheted, and quilted. Often, they are blessed by a minister or priest before being given to the recipient.

My plan is to make as many as possible to donate to our local hospital's cancer center, to anyone, or any hospital. I'm working on different patterns, including some with more of an open weave for the warmer months. I personally know that doctor's offices and clinics can be quite chilly even in the summer if you have to wait for long periods of time.

I am also selling the shawls on Shop Handmade with half of the proceeds going back into Project Comfort in order to be able to donate more shawls. If you would like to donate yarn or make a monetary donation, it would be greatly appreciated and certainly be for a good cause. You may contact me at jks4690 "at" aol "dot" com. Also, if you are a knitter, crocheter, or quilter and would like to volunteer for Project Comfort, use the same address to contact me. I'd love to have your help!
